We all have that one lazy afternoon, don’t know what to prepare for lunch. I had one too! So I called my mom to check one of those magic recipes of hers.
The best thing of this recipe is that you can have it as a soup, since this recipe has no dal/lentils. With all the healthy ingredients, this is my go to recipe for those gloomy days, to give a zing of energy.
Don’t forget to check my tips after the recipe. Lets get cooking!!!
Ingredients:
Tomatoes – 2 medium sized
Pepper – 1 teaspoon
Garlic – 4 to 5 pods (skin peeled)
Coriander seeds – 1 teaspoon (dry)
Dry red chilli – 2 no.
Tamarind pulp or paste – 1.5 teaspoon
Jeera – 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder – 0.5 teaspoon
Jaggery – 1 teaspoon (optional)
Water – 3 cups
Salt for taste
Coriander leaves to garnish (chopped)
Method:
Roughly chop the tomatoes and drop them in a grinder jar. Along with the tomatoes, add pepper, garlic, coriander seeds, red chilli, tamarind, jeera, and jaggery.

Grind it to a fine paste. (Check the picture below for the consistency)

In a vessel, take 3 cups of water, add the paste to it and mix it well. Add turmeric powder. Add salt to taste (I have used salt crystals, so I grinded them all). Bring it to a boil. Switch off the stove and add the chopped fresh coriander leaves.
You can either have it as a soup or have it with plain rice.

Tips:
– Sour tomatoes taste good with this recipe. But remember to reduce the quantity of tamarind if the tomatoes are too sour.
– I have added jaggery to this recipe, it is completely optional. It will taste good either ways.
– the proportion of the ingredients may vary as per your taste, feel free to taste once after the ingrediants are grinded and add more of any of the ingredients when you do again.
Remember the key is to taste the dish at every stage and experiment with it. Let me know in the comments below about your experiment with this recipe.
